Happenings On Campus

Summer Programmes Success
Since the end of June, Ridley’s campus has been buzzing with activity. More than 700 students from around the globe have been taking part in a variety of day and boarding camps. While some campers have been testing their athletic abilities at our Multi-Sport Camp and Summer Rowing School, others have been exploring robotics, science and engineering, entrepreneurship, forensic investigation and learning English as a Second Language (ESL) – to name a few. Our more artistic camp goers have also been participating in the Summer Symphony Academy, a programme launched in partnership with the Niagara Symphony Orchestra (NSO). Dates for our 2017 summer programmes will be released on our website in the weeks to come.

Exciting Leadership Changes
This year, Ridley welcomes Michele Bett from the TASIS School in England as our new Head of Upper School. She will be passed the baton by Stephen Clarke, as he makes the move across campus as the new Head of Lower School. Previous Head of Lower School, Mr. Jim Milligan has retired after 35 years of service.

At the end of the 2015-2016 school year, Ridley also said goodbye to two Heads of Houses. Although they will both remain in their current positions at Ridley, Ken Hutton is stepping down after 17 years as the Merritt North Head of House. After seven years, David Darby will also leave his post as Head of House for Arthur Bishop West.

Ridleian Ranked Sixth in Canada for Archery
Ridleian, Reece Wilson-Poyton '18, currently ranked sixth in Canada out of 34 archers in his age category, recently attended a week-long, intensive training program in Utah for junior archers with potential to join the national team and compete at the international level. In a recent St. Catharines Standard article, Reece spoke about his goal to reach the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games.

Ridley Staff 'Learn to Row'
Twice weekly throughout the summer, a group of 12 staff members have been learning what it takes to be rowers. The participants, also including current students and coaches, began training in Ridley’s rowing tank in June and have, for several weeks, been applying their technique on the water at the Henley course in Port Dalhousie. A special thanks to the coaches, Gerry Piovesana and Hans Braul '73, for their guidance!
