Happenings On Campus

Thank You for Giving
During the Thanksgiving weekend, we reflected on how grateful we are for our 2015-2016 Annual Fund donors, who helped ensure that our school’s excellence, traditions and beauty are maintained and enjoyed by our talented students – the leaders of tomorrow. We hope you enjoy this brief video from our students.

Ridleians Attend WE Day

On October 19th, a group of Ridleians lived out our school’s vision – inspiring flourishing lives to transform our globe – alongside thousands of young change agents at WE Day in Toronto. This year, our students had the chance to hear from global leaders, activists, and cultural icons, like Chris Hadfield, Margaret Trudeau and Gord Downie. Most significantly, our own, Xavier West ’20 was presented with the 12th annual We Charity Youth Award for his dedication to raising more than $10,000 to build a school in Kenya. Read blog article.

114th Lower School Cross Country Run
On September 30th, Grade 4 to 8 students took part in the 114th annual Lower School Cross Country Run; one of the school’s longest standing traditions. The race was a display of tremendous athletic effort and school spirit. Students raced as individuals, as well as members of one of our four tribes. This year, Iroquois was named the winning tribe and took home the Peter B. Robinson Cup. View final race results. View photos.

Exciting Era for Basketball
Our senior Boys basketball team has enjoyed unprecedented success over the last ten years and we have decided to build upon those accomplishments by continuing to improve our schedule, roster and overall programme, so that we can challenge the best prep school basketball programmes, anywhere in the world!

By hiring two FIBA certified coaches with international and national level experience, Mr. Tarry Upshaw (Head Coach) and Mr. Michael Bett (Lead Assistant Coach), we have assembled of the most talented and experienced coaching staffs in the province. Mr. Dave Whitty remains as an assistant coach and will be enjoying an exciting new role as Director of Basketball

2016-2017 Annual Fund
We're excited to announce the launch of our 2016-2017 Annual Fund Campaign. This year's projects were thoughtfully selected because they support the goals of the Strategic Plan and also aim to strike a balance between initiatives that preserve our school's history and promote pioneering approaches to learning.

TransfORming Our Globe
For this month’s installment of the TransfORming Our Globe series, we’re sharing the story of alumni, Ted Kirkpatrick ’05 and Adrian Pennachetti ‘05, who saw a business opportunity that was both environmentally sustainable and prosperous. Read about how these two Ridleians started Tree to Table – a Niagara based company that salvages, mills, cuts and converts reclaimed wood into live-edged tables. Read more.

Do you know of any classmates who are living flourishing lives or transforming our globe? Email any suggestions for the TransfORming Our Globe blog series to the Development Office.

We welcomed several members of the alumni community back to campus in the month of October. In particular, several members of the Mitchell family, as well as graduates from the Class of 1968. We encourage all alumni to come back and visit Ridley!

Event Recaps

Head of the Charles & Boston Reception
On October 22nd - 23rd, we were joined by over 50 members of the Ridley community in Boston for the Head Of The Charles Regatta and a Ridley reception, an event sponsored by the Ridley College Fund USA Inc.

From our men's eight crew – spanning five decades of alumni – competing on Saturday, to our highly competitive student crews racing on Sunday, Ridley was well represented on the water.

On Saturday evening, members of the Ridley community joined at the Barking Crab, for a reception. It was wonderful to see so many Ridleians, sharing a passion for and commitment to rowing.

London Reception
A reception was held in London, Ontario, on the evening of Tuesday, October 25th at the Windermere Manor Hotel. Thank you to the alumni, current and past parents, and friends in the community for joining us! Events like this one consistently remind us of why Ridley is so special.
